St. Gregory the Great
[God is] within all things, outside of all things, above them all, below them all. He is above by power, below by sustenance, exterior by magnitude, interior by penetration. On high ruling, below containing, externally surrounding, internally penetrating. He is not above by one part of his substance, below by another, or outside by one part and inside by another. But wholly one and the same, everywhere sustaining by presiding and presiding by sustaining just as he penetrates by surrounding and surrounds by penetrating....Within he penetrates without being diminished, without he surrounds without being extended. He is therefore, both above and below without being confined in a place. He is rich without breadth. He is fine without loss.
